Pushing the Print Media Out of the Window- The Daily comes on Ipad and Tablets
As both Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch concur, iPad is the death of print, and the new future of media. When you have a computer in your pocket, you don’t need printed media.
But this is not all- they are actually working to bring an end to the printed newspapers with the launch of The Daily- the only newspaper made exclusively for digital platform. As reported by the WWD, Apple is providing help to News Corp in making a subscription based, iPad only newspapers, which would come in the market latest by early 2011- and it might be debuted by Steve Jobs himself.
If you think that it is just an app that will collate features from other outlets of News Corps, think again- it is entirely a new publication. All the material of this publication is solely for tablets and iPad, and this latest newspaper, The Daily, will not have any web or printed version. It is described as a tabloid sensibility with broadsheet intelligence.
Plus, it is really affordable- with 99 cents per week or $4 per month for subscriptions.
The engineers at Apple are assigned to help News Corp in this task and as said earlier, this publication will be debuted by Steve Jobs himself, along with Rupert Murdoch.
What we have here is an entirely different perspective of journalism, with the media revolutionized by the digital impact. This journalism will thrive on the iPad, and The Daily would become the buzzword in the technical world. The creators of The Daily do not want it to be a backup newspaper- it should be de facto newspaper for your news thirst.
There are lots of expectations, but will The Daily be able to meet them? We still have to wait a month to see that. Will this be a revolution in the journalism sector? Only time will tell.
